Meet Lauren Michel

Certified Practising Nutritionist and Police Veteran

Understanding people’s stories has shaped every stage of Lauren’s career - from policing to clinical nutrition. Today, Lauren helps people better understand their health through personalised nutrition, education and evidence-informed care.

Before I became a Nutritionist

Before becoming a Certified Practising Nutritionist (CPN), Lauren spent more than 18 years as a police officer plus 8 years as a Police and Emergency Services dispatcher. It was a career she genuinely loved. Every day was different. The work offered a strong sense of purpose and taught the importance of resilience, compassion and looking beyond the obvious to understand what was really happening.

Like many people working in policing, emergency services and other helping professions it's easy to become very good at putting everyone else's needs first and much harder to do the same for yourself.

Understanding the bigger picture

Many people reach a point where they know something isn't quite right. They're tired in ways that sleep doesn't seem to fix, their energy isn't what it once was or they simply don't feel like themselves. Yet despite doing all the things they believe are right, answers can feel hard to come by.

That search for answers - and the desire to understand what the body may be trying to communicate - is what first drew Lauren to the study of Nutritional Medicine. As her knowledge grew, so did her appreciation that every person’s health story is unique. Two people can share the same diagnosis, yet the factors contributing to their health may be very different. True health isn’t about finding a single cause or a quick fix. It’s about understanding the bigger picture.

That philosophy continues to shape Lauren’s approach today.

Rather than focusing on on one symptom, one blood test or one solution, Lauren takes the time to listen to each person’s story, understand their health history, consider their lifestyle and, where appropriate, review relevant clinical information before making recommendations. Tools such as pathology, Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) and genetic testing may be used to help build a more complete picture but they are never relied upon in isolation - they are simply pieces of a much larger puzzle.

From there, Lauren works collaboratively with each client to develop a personalised nutrition, lifestyle and supplement plan that is practical, realistic and tailored to their individual needs and circumstances.

The goal isn’t to overwhelm people with information or ask them to change everything overnight. It’s to help them better understand their health so they can move forward with greater clarity and condidence.

What You Can Expect from Lauren

Lauren believes that qualifications and clinical knowledge are only part of what makes a good practitioner. Also very important is how people are listened to, supported and involved throughout their health journey.

Explains the Why

Lauren believes people make better decisions when they understand what is being recommended and the reasoning behind it.

Creates a Safe Space

Lauren aims to create a safe space where people feel heard, understood and supported, because understanding your health is the foundation for meaningful, sustainable change.

Supporting the People Who Spend Their Lives Supporting Others

Many people dedicate their careers to protecting, caring for or supporting others. Whether that is in policing, emergency services, defence, healthcare, education or other service-focused professions, these roles often demand resilience, responsibility and a willingness to keep going - even when personal health begins to take a back seat.

Having spent over a quarter of a century working in the policing arena, Lauren has a genuine appreciation of the unique demands these professions can place on one’s health and wellbeing. She understands the long shifts, disrupted routines, exposure to stress and the tendency to put everyone else’s needs before your own - through both her professional career and her own personal journey.

While Lauren has a special interest in supporting people in these professions, her approach remains the same for every client. Everyone deserves to feel heard, understood and supported, regardless of their background or the health challenges that bring them to clinic.

Beyond the Clinic

When she’s not working with clients, Lauren enjoys the simple things that help her stay grounded and look after her own health and wellbeing.

You’ll often find her in the gym doing strength training and Yin Yoga, walking in nature, spending time in the garden, making sourdough and yoghurt or experimenting with nutritious recipes in the kitchen. These everyday routines remind her that good health isn’t built through perfection - it’s built through the small, consistent habits that become part of everyday life.

Lauren also treasures time with her husband, family and friends. She believes that health isn’t just about what we eat - it’s also about how we live, the people we surround ourselves with and making space for the things that give us joy.
