Pathology Interpretation

Your blood tests are only one piece of the puzzle but they can provide valuable insights when interpreted in the context of your health.

Many people are told their blood tests are "normal", yet they still don't feel right. Rather than looking at pathology results in isolation, I interpret them alongside your symptoms, health history, lifestyle and goals to help build a more complete understanding of your health from a nutritional medicine perspective.

What is Pathology Interpretation?

Pathology testing provides important information about many aspects of your health. As a Certified Practising Nutritionist, I review pathology through a nutritional medicine lens, considering your results alongside your symptoms, health history and lifestyle rather than relying on a single result in isolation.

Where appropriate, I also use optimal reference ranges to help identify patterns that may be relevant to nutritional status and overall health. These ranges do not replace standard laboratory reference ranges or medical diagnosis—they are simply another tool that may assist in developing personalised nutrition and lifestyle recommendations within my scope of practice.

How Does It Work?

I begin by reviewing any recent pathology you already have available. In some cases, existing blood test results provide valuable information and additional testing may not be necessary.

Where appropriate, I may recommend discussing further pathology with your GP if additional information would assist in building a clearer understanding of your health or if you prefer I can order pathology testing privately for you and you pay the pathology lab directly.

Pathology results are always interpreted alongside your symptoms, health history, lifestyle and other clinical information. They are never relied upon in isolation and form just one part of your overall assessment.

Lauren’s Perspective

"One of the most common things I hear is 'My doctor said everything was normal, but I still don't feel well.' Blood tests can provide valuable information, but they're only one piece of the bigger picture. My role is to help interpret those results in the context of your health so they make more sense to you."

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you interpret blood tests that my GP has already ordered?

Yes. In many cases, existing recent pathology provides valuable information and there is no need to repeat testing unnecessarily. Past results can also help identify patterns and when things started to shift.

If you provide me with a copy of your results, I review your available pathology results as part of your overall health assessment and interpret them in the context of your symptoms, health history and nutritional needs.

What do you mean by optimal reference ranges?

Standard laboratory reference ranges are designed to help identify disease and significant abnormalities.

Within nutritional medicine, practitioners may also consider optimal reference ranges for some biomarkers to help identify patterns that may be relevant to nutritional status and overall health. These are used to guide nutrition and lifestyle recommendations within my scope of practice and do not replace medical diagnosis or advice from your GP or specialist.

Will I need additional blood test than a general pathology panel?

Not necessarily. Many clients already have recent pathology that provides useful information. Where additional testing may assist in building a clearer understanding of your health, I will discuss this with you and, where appropriate, recommend that you speak with your GP.

Any recommendations are always based on your individual circumstances rather than following a routine testing protocol.
